Zhu Zhu Pets - The Christmas Must Have Toy ?

By Ledley Withenshaw

There have been many toy crazes over the last few years, all of them seemingly a little more complex than the last. The reason for this is that technology itself is growing at such an incredible rate that toys these days are just getting more realistic and cool to have. This year is no different with the introduction of Zhu Zhu Pets.

These little guys are made to look like real hamsters, so that children can have a closely simulated experience to owning a real pet. This is leaps and bounds past toy pets of even a year or so ago by incorporating real hamster like motion and activity without the need to actually take care of one or the risk losing a cherished pet.

But what makes it worth the money? Live hamsters themselves can be found for as little as 8-9 dollars a piece, but the abundance of accessories to make a play land for them can get costly in a hurry. Certainly anyone can see the perk of not having to clean cages or replace food and water every day, but many are concerned with the educational values of this type of toy. These people believe that the kids aren't learning real responsibility to care for an animal, when it never dies or needs any cleaning up after.

A child will never be able to completely connect with a Zhu Zhu Pet as they could with a real pet hamster, or any pet for that matter. But that's not what could be the toy's real merit. This is a good step in between not having a pet and later having one with full responsibility. Caring, even in part, for a Zhu Zhu could inspire your child to be truly devoted to a real one.

You may feel that your young child is not capable of properly caring for a live hamster and end up hurting the creature. Yet your child clearly loves the thought of having his or her own pet to play with. With a Zhu Zhu pet, she can feel as though she has a hamster, without you worrying for its safety and well being. This can be a safe and happy compromise.

The Zhu Zhu pet is programmed to make it sound and act like a real hamster. From sporadic movements to real hamster sounds, this is the next best thing to actually having a hamster. There are two different modes that the hamster can be in, loving mode and exploring mode. Loving mode allows kids to be able to hold the hamster and have it respond to their touches. Exploring mode allows it to head off and explore on its own, much like a real hamster would do.

For all we know, the Zhu Zhu Pet might be a passing phase like the Cabbage Patch Kid and all other toys before it, but it provides kids with a chance to feel like they have a real pet, or a new pet that they may not have been able to have before. You can take it however you like, but this Christmas, many kids will squeal with delight when they unwrap their own Zhu Zhu hamster. - 30320
