By Ginnie Wilburn

Often trying to decide what would make the best Christmas toy for your child can be a real struggle. Children many times have a huge wish list filled with the hottest and most popular toys. No doubt commercialism has a big impact on your child's wish list.

Children are all different with varying lifestyles. As a result of this, what could be considered the best Christmas toy for one child may not be a good choice for another child. However the one thing you can count on is that when a child opens up their Christmas gift and they are filled with happiness, then you have made a great choice.

You can find a huge variety of toys when doing your Christmas shopping. These three tips are to help you in selecting the right toy for your child:

1. Choose a toy that is age appropriate for your child. It is a good idea to follow the manufacture's recommendation for appropriate ages for their toy. But as with most things, exceptions do exist.

Children skill levels, social, physical, creative and emotional growth varies. It is because of this that the suggested age recommendation by manufacturers is only a guideline. If you believe a certain toy would be a good choice for your child, despite the fact that your child's age doesn't fit within the recommended age range don't let this stop you from choosing the toy.

2. An overwhelmingly popular toy does not mean that it is the best Christmas toy for your child. Often a gift related to a child's favorite interests, a collection or hobby would make the best gift for them.

Here is an example for choosing a best Christmas toy. Your child has a keen interest in basketball. Then a basketball related gift would probably be a great choice. You might consider giving your child a basketball video game, a huge poster of their favorite basketball player for their room or maybe a backpack with their favorite sports team logo.

3. Well constructed and durable are two important pointed too consider when selecting a toy. When a child starts crying on Christmas because they broke the new toy that Santa left it is indeed sad. There is no toy that is indestructible. This is why durability is very important to consider when purchasing a toy. If a toy cannot hold up to a child's play, then it is not worth considering. - 30320
