The Nerf Longshot Is Not Just For Kids

By Russell Masina

One of the best parts about the summer is running around the backyard or woods with your friends, playing tag or war games. Your guns might be sticks, cap guns, carved pieces of wood, or Nerf guns. After a long day of play, you and your friends can then enjoy the twilight on the front porch and kick back with a couple of beers. Wait a minute! Beer isn't for kids! However, this description of a fun summer afternoon isn't necessary for kids either. While you probably won't be using sticks as adults, Nerf guns are enjoyed by kids and those who are still kids at heart. Since some of the Nerf guns on the market have the range and accuracy to mimic real guns, such as the Nerf Longshot, they are preferred by weekend warriors who just want to have a good time.

The kids who grew up with Nerf guns are now adults. Some of them like to go paint balling on the weekends, while others engage in more sophisticated mock war games.

However, most people aren't that serious. They would rather get together with their friends for a boys' weekend and mess around with a few Nerf guns. Part of the fun comes from hanging out with friends and part of the fun comes from beefing up with is essentially a child's toy with a few simple innovations.

Since they are designed to be safe for six year olds, there are very few ways in which you can hurt yourself with a Nerf gun. Of course, many guys are also tempted to modify their guns to make them shot farther or faster as well, but that's half the fun.

As soon as you take the Longshot out of the box, hold off on attaching the bolt lever. This way you can easily unscrew the gun and find the internal spring that gives the Longshot its power.

The power of the Longshot, what gives it the ability to shoot up to thirty five feet, is an inner spring. If you add another spring from, for example, a toilet paper holder, you can double or even trip your range. The scope on this gun helps with your accuracy at these far ranges.

Other great parts of the Longshot include its two extra clips that you can load before the games start. This means that you don't have to reload your gun in the middle of a battle. Both children and adults with appreciate this feature, just as both adults and children will enjoy playing all kinds of games with the Nerf Longshot. - 30320
